Teaching Approach and Courses

Teaching approach:
My teaching is grounded in a commitment to social justice and the belief that students are active participants in shaping the communities and systems in which they live. I approach the classroom as a space where students critically examine power, inequality, identity, and social change while developing the skills needed to engage thoughtfully with contemporary social challenges. Drawing from traditions in critical pedagogy (Wink, 2005; Boronski, 2022) and community-engaged scholarship (Gordon da Cruz, 2017), my teaching invites students to connect academic theory with lived experience and practice to understand their own role in shaping social and policy change.
My approach is guided by two commitments: (1) learning is relational, place-based, and experiential, and (2) students bring knowledge, lived experience, and cultural memory that are essential to collective learning. I facilitate learning environments where students work collaboratively, critically examine power relations, and reflect on how political, economic, cultural, and environmental systems shape everyday life. I encourage students to see themselves as participants in these systems with the capacity to contribute to social change.
